Certification

Why CNRN?

The Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN®) credential formally recognizes the attainment and demonstration of a unique body of knowledge necessary for the practice of neuroscience nursing. Through this credential, ABNN recognizes nurses who demonstrate the attainment of this knowledge through successful completion of the certification exam or recertification through continuing education.

CNRN Exam
Candidates may take the CNRN exam in either a paper-pencil format or through Computer Based Testing (CBT). The CBT exam is offered at approximately 200 sites throughout the United States and Canada. The exam is offered twice a year: once in the spring and once in the fall. View more information.

Recertification
CNRNs are eligible to renew their credential in the fifth year of their certification. Those who wish to renew their credential may do so either by retaking the CNRN exam or recertifying by CE. Please make sure to use the correct application when applying for recertification. View more information.

CNRN-Retired Status
ABNN developed the CNRN-Retired status to recognize CNRNs who have retired from their professional nursing career but wish to maintain their credentials. View more information. View more information.
