Recertification
CNRNs are eligible to renew their credential in the fifth year of their certification. If you obtained your certification in 2004 or recertified as of January 1, 2005, then you are due to recertify in 2009.
Those who wish to renew their credential may do so either by retaking the CNRN exam or recertifying by CE. Please make sure to use the correct application when applying for recertification.
New Recertification Application for 2009!
Guided by the recommendations of the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) and member organizations, a thorough review of the recertification criteria was undertaken to simplify the recertification categories and recognize the wide range of activities that CNRNs perform to improve neuroscience nursing practice. Due to increasingly diverse roles and interdisciplinary practice models, ABNN sought to broaden the categories of eligible CE activities. Recertification will continue to require at least 30 credits of continuing neuroscience education over the 5-year certification period. The remaining credits can be completed in program or project activities, research, teaching, publication, and involvement in professional organizations.
We hope that you'll find the updated application more logical and easier to use! For the convenience of those due to recertify in 2009, the original recertification application will be accepted through the end of 2009, although only the updated application is available for download.
