Creating your CNRN Portfolio Using the CNRN CE

Barbara Mancini, RN CNRN

In today’s world of rapidly developing technology and concerns for quality, competency, and safety, it is imperative that we formally keep track of our continuing education units as well as our professional achievements.

For years, I kept continuing education certificates in different piles of papers on my desk or in folders on a bookcase or sometimes just stashed in a kitchen drawer.  Sound familiar?  You can imagine the length of time it took to gather everything together for CNRN Recertification.

Now all of that has changed with the development of the CNRN CE Tracker.  The CNRN CE Tracker is a maroon binder that is divided into sections that include indexes and pockets for each category of acceptable CE’s.  It also includes a detailed description of each category, and a CNRN Recertification CE Log.  I purchased sheet protectors for my CE Certificates and then listed them chronologically beginning with the most recently completed.  I was amazed to see how easy it was to complete the Recertification process.  It was actually a fun process and gave me time to reflect on how much I have learned.

Over the last few months I have turned my CNRN CE Tracker into a CNRN portfolio to include not only my CE’s, but also my resume, annual performance evaluations, RN license, PPD record, committee participation, community activities, and letters of appreciation from patients and coworkers.

The CNRN CE Tracker presents your past and looks toward your future.  Be creative and add any supporting material that describes your Neuroscience career.   You’ll be able to point with pride at your accomplishments and how far you have come as a CNRN professional.
