Is this product designed to be instructor-led or self-study?
FNN was designed to be instructor-led by an experienced nurse at an institution. It does not come with audio. Customer feedback indicates FNN is being deployed in a variety of ways, with many institutions making the FNN modules available via Intranet access.
Sales to date of FNN have been in combination with the following products.
- AANN Core Curriculum for Neuroscience Nursing, 4th Edition
- Scope and Standards of Neuroscience Nursing Practice
- Correlative Neuroanatomy DVD (self-study product, comes with audio)
- Spinal Cord Anatomy DVD (self-study product, comes with audio)
Can FNN be loaded on the computers on our units for all of the nurses to access? Would this require additional fees?
FNN is one product that can be purchased at various rates depending on what kind of access you need at your institution. The rates are reinforced via a User Agreement embedded in the software.
Single User Rate
The Single User rate allows a single user to use the product on any computer as long as the product is not in concurrent use on any other computer (i.e. user owns two computers). The product may be installed, but not running on more than one computer at a time.
Single User Member Rate: $450
Single User Nonmember Rate: $700
Single Site Rate
This rate allows use of the software for all users and servers at a single physical site within a single company. It allows for the software to be uploaded to the site's Intranet provided the network is secure. The product will not run from the Intranet but can be downloaded to PCs from the Intranet.
Single Site Rate: $1,500
Multi Site Rate
This rate allows use of the software for all users and servers within a single company - to any number of computers belonging to the organization regardless of location. It allows for the software to be uploaded to company's Intranet provided the network is secure. All sites must abide by the terms of purchase. The purchasing site shall be responsible for the actions of each additional site. Those interested in the Multi Site Rate should call the AANN office (888/557-2266) to discuss the appropriate rate for their system.
A contract is not involved in the purchase of FNN. Because FNN is a product that can be purchased at various rates, a User Agreement is embedded in the software to reinforce usage rights.
Does AANN provide continuing education contact hours in conjunction with FNN?
AANN does not provide continuing education contact hours in conjunction with purchase of the product.
Can FNN be used for CNRN exam preparation?
FNN is designed to present foundational neuroscience nursing concepts to those with two years or less experience in the care of patients in the neuroscience population. Within the requirements listed to sit for the CNRN exam it is noted an applicant "will have completed at least 2 years (4,160 hours) within the last 5 years of full-time direct or indirect neuroscience nursing practice as an RN." So, FNN is not necessarily designed for CNRN exam preparation but educators may find FNN an excellent base from which to build a CNRN preparatory lecture.
Two products geared for CNRN exam preparation are forthcoming (targeted release: Fall 2006). The CNRN Preparation Program product will be similar to FNN in that it is designed to be instructor-led. The CNRN Preparation Self-Study product will draw from the Program product but be retooled for self-study. Audio will not accompany either product.
What is the schedule for updates or future versions of FNN?
The FNN product is in essence a Neuroscience Nursing 101. We expect it to have longevity but FNN will be reviewed and updated as appropriate on a three-year schedule.
How is FNN installed on computers?
FNN is a 102mb set of files which contains a Flash interface (.exe), 21 corresponding PowerPoint files (.pps), and a Flash-based program (.exe). Installation and usage instructions for each rate type are as follows:
Single User Rate: A single user can run the interface either directly from the CD or by copying the entire contents of the CD to their own PC.
Single Site or Multi Site Rate: An institutional purchase of FNN at the Single or Multi Site Rate allows users to launch the FNN interface from their own PC. The institution’s technical support team has three options:
- Place a copy of the FNN folder on a network file server where users can download the folder and its contents to their own PC to run the interface.
- Place a ZIP file containing the contents of the FNN files on an Intranet where users can download the zip file directly to their own PC and extract to run the FNN interface.
- Copy the entire contents of the CD to users’ PCs to run the FNN interface.
The interface cannot be run via a web browser, and all original files and folder structure must be retained for proper display.
