She will highlight the many advances in the clinical field as well as the changes in the workplace. She emphasizes the importance of keeping up with the ever-changing world of science and technology, the importance of collaborative care with health professionals and patients, and the importance of maintaining one's health while balancing everyone else's lives.

DaiWai M. Olson, PhD RN CCRN

DaiWai Olson, PhD RN CCRN, will address the growing body of knowledge related to temperature modulation in the neuroscience population, specifically patients with traumatic brain injury as well as other populations, including patients post cardiac arrest, those with ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, and the pediatrics. Dr. Olson will examine the history of hypothermia as a treatment modality, provide us with a better understanding of its effects on the central nervous system, and discuss current trends in the scientific literature and their effect on the practice of the neuroscience nurse.

Dr. Olson, assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Neurology at Duke University, is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, most recently the 2009 AACN Research Oral Abstract Award and the 2009 Raleigh, NC, Triangle Business Journal Healthcare Heroes Award for Nursing. His accomplishments include an extensive list of national and international presentations focused on neurocritical care topics.
